Healthcare Heroes: Environmental Services Staff

As our team continues to manage the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, every aspect of patient care is important. One team that is playing a key role now is Environmental Services, or EVS.

This dedicated team of more than 400 employees is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, waiting rooms and other public spaces—and all other facilities and spaces at Cedars-Sinai.

"It feels good that we're all in this together, and we want to all make a difference for patients and for ourselves."

"Cedars-Sinai has always focused on making sure that we keep our healthcare workers safe as well as our patients," says Maricela Clemens, EVS associate director. "Although we don't directly care for patients, we care for them in another way."

With heightened focus on washing our hands and disinfecting surfaces to limit the spread of the virus, practicing extra cleaning precautions has become a focus for every Cedars-Sinai employee.

In addition to their own cleaning duties, the EVS team is also helping make sure staff members are protected.

"We provide a lot of our cleaning solutions to ensure nurses can clean all their equipment," says lead technician Rocio Bolanos de Magallon. "We've also been talking to them and training them on how to use it properly."

Throughout the pandemic, the goal for EVS staff is to help make sure patients and staff are in a safe and clean environment.

"It feels good that we're all in this together, and we want to all make a difference for patients and for ourselves," says Maricela.
